Avec cette étourdissant petit chef d’œuvre, Anthony Asquith fait ses débuts comme metteur en scène, bien qu'il ne soit pas crédité à l'écran. Il nous fait découvrir l'envers du décor dans un studio britannique. On tourne simultanément un western et une comédie burlesque. Le couple vedette du western se révèle dans la vie bien plus désuni qu'il n'y parait. Mae entretient, en cachette, une relation avec la star comique du studio. Mais, étant attachée par un contrat avec une clause de moralité, elle ne peut pas divorcer ou se séparer de Julian facilement. Elle échafaude un plan machiavélique pour se débarrasser de son époux.
